I had been looking at this camera for a while before purchasing and had downloaded the manual, looked it over, read some of it, and thought this would be OK...I can do this. I knew some of the more common issues by watching the forums, such as enabling the control panel. But after getting this camera and sitting down with it, I started having some questions. I really wanted to go out and use it that night and there were some settings that I really wasn't sure about. I managed to get out that day and try a few things, before using it that night, and basically did OK, but knew there was more to be gotten from digging around in the menu. There's some great assistance to be found on a couple of m4/3rds users web sites, but I was really hoping to find something aimed directly at the M10. I found this publication and it was pretty much everything I was looking for...well written and obviously done with the user in mind, unlike the factory manual. It will tell you what the settings do, but not why you would change them. Most of us appreciate a little background about the whys and wherefores. This kind of information can sometimes be difficult to extract from the web forums. Occasionally you get the smart a** remark "RTFM !" Really helpful stuff there...guy probably needs to schedule a cranianalectomy...soon. So for all the M10 users out there, this is an excellent publication that will help you understand and get the most from your camera. Well worth the money. There is one small mistake that should be addressed at some time. Menu D > Flicker Reduction ...He has the settings backward...60 Hz for North America...50 Hz for most everywhere else. There's no way that I can see to get a hold of him, so maybe this will get passed along.Product details

This is a good, informative expansion on the two manuals that come bundled with the camera. Green thoughtfully and exhaustively walks you through every menu screen, button and dial, and method of operating the camera. Much of the information shared can be found on the web, but it is very nice to have it all in one location, easily cross-referenced, and with plenty of examples of field use of various settings and options.
As a newcomer to the interchangeable camera world, this was a must-read. I especially found the explanations on how to setup the Myset functions useful. I think people who are already familiar with DSLRs or mirrorless cameras will find this too basic, though.
I do have to say something about the editing of the book. There are far too many basic spelling and grammar errors (likely over-looked typos). Notably the continued use of the word "lightening" when discussing the *lightning* bolt icon used to indicate the flash function. They are two different words that mean two very different things. I realize as an editor I may be more sensitive to these errors than others. And I admit they do not change what is being conveyed. But good grief are they distracting. And they undermine the expertise of the author.
Beyond those issues, I would recommend the book to other new OM-D E-M10 owners.
This book has been excellent in helping me understand my Olympus Pen E-PL7. Although the manual is for an OM-D E-M10 the camera's share plenty of guts, features, and this labyrinth of a menu. I have no classic photography experience, and no DSLR experience and without this book I have no idea how i'dve been able to actually unlock my camera's potential. I actually feel like I am learning instead of fumbling the way I was when I was only just reading the user manual and trying to google for assistance on forums and websites. It's comfortably written and informative and it makes learning Olympus and it's menu far less steep of a curve. There are some chapters and areas that I obviously skip due to having a Pen instead (mine doesn't have a built in flash or viewfinder, and apparently one less dial on top) but there's still so much useful info I was able to get a lot out of it.
If you are new to the OM-D E-M 10 series the menu system is just overwhelming. It doesn't matter how much you study the user manual, which is quite good, is just too much. This book will guide you through the jungle of menu and settings until your camera is configured to max its potential. There are few typos here and there and some edition aspects of the book could be better, but it is great value for its price.
An invaluable addition to the manual provided by Olympus. The book does cover the MarkII model as well, but came out before the MarkIII so perhaps an update will be done by the author, at some point, if this is the camera you want to know more about. Chapters are easy to navigate and the writing style easy to digest. As with nearly all newer cameras, the OMD is very complex and just retaining any tips on its use requires brain power! Sometimes this reviewer is lacking in that department. LOL. As this book is also the only aftermarket read on the OMD-EM10, we are fortunate indeed to have it available at a reasonable price and that it is so well compiled!
If you own an Olympus OM-D E-M10 this book helps explain the menu options and why you would use them. I find the advice very helpful. I have been away from photography for quite a few years having my experience with an Olympus OM-1, a very good but manual 35mm film camera. I was bewildered by the E-M10's extensive menu options. I purchased a hard copy of the Olympus E-M10 manual, but it was more or less a more detailed description of the menu and has a lot of 'see something else at ...'. This book helps and even tells you an option can only be chosen if you have others settings a certain way. Explains how to get to menu selections, as it can be frustrating when you can't recall how you got to the setting you would really like to use. I would recommend this book to anyone, but is probably more useful to beginners or intermediate photographers.
